One question I'm asked, as a teacher in a busy London secondary school, is whether I can recommend a tutor.  I find the best match is most often an enthusiastic sixth former or undergraduate who loves their chosen subject and is studying it at A level or as a degree.  This is because they have the most recent experience in taking GCSE's and have been able to achieve top grades in the subject they are currently studying at an advanced level.  What's more, they are great academic mentors and role models who are able to help tutees focus, build up their confidence and gain higher grades.

 

As a parent, I didn't hesitate organising one to one tutoring from a sixth-form tutor for my own daughter in Year 10.  He tutored her for two years and they found the most convenient and effective way of tutoring was online.  He was able to really help with topics she didn't fully understand, they went through past papers and even helped her plan revision.  She felt much more comfortable with a tutor closer to her own age and with someone who had recently gone through the exams themselves. Her confidence shot up and he most certainly helped her attain the high grades she went on to achieve. This is the same for many primary and secondary students and it's because of these great experiences we are now launching TutorHub.
